Take a Hike

My dog Emma, and my new (you guessed it, handpaintedyarn.com "Christmas Green") Irish Hiking Scarf go for a hike through a wilderness preserve on the Mesa.

We rest for a moment while my scarf and a lizard lie out on a log enjoying the warmpth of the sun after the rains.

There are many beautiful places to take a scarf hiking in Santa Barbara. One of my favorite trails is in Montecito; Cold Springs Trail to Tangerine Falls.

I took this picture with a plastic disposable camera in the spring of 2000. I went with my brother's fiance Laurie. She says she meet him for the first time that day after our hike. He proposed to her a few weeks ago at the top of Inspiration Point, another Santa Barbara Trail.
I went with the two of them on the hike the next day. I had to stop here and rest.
James and Laurie did exercises to keep their heartrates up while I sat down on a rock. My brother grabbed a tree branch and did several pull ups while Laurie did pushups against a bolder.

What can I say, they're made for each other.

Look!! I finally got started on the Irish Hiking Scarf!! I'm so excited...but I have to put the knitting down so that I can study for my final on Thursday.

Under new management

As you probably read in her previous posts, Lisa, has decided to end her reign as hostess for this knitalong. She's generously handed over the reigns to me to carry on this knitalong so that it will not end.

As a side note, thank you for starting this KAL in the first place, Lisa. For me, it's helped immensely to see everyone's progress and be inspired to finish mine!

It's business as usual, so if you want to join, send an email or post a comment indicating your interest.

Remember: It's never too early to start on next year's holiday or anniversary presents!

Last call for someone to take over...

I'm going to be closing down the blog soon, and I wanted to give you all the last opportunity if anyone would like to keep this knitalong rolling. I don't feel up to the admin duties indefinitely, although it's really just sending invites out to those who express an interest, and updating the sidebar. If anyone's interesting in keeping it going, just send me an email. Otherwise, I'll start taking it down this week. Thanks!
There is still interest in people wanting to knitalong. I'm still getting emails from people who want to join ;)

Rhymes with "Bucket"

I've been having trouble with Photobucket lately. I haven't been able to upload any new pictures - and I have quite a few I'd like to share with you.

I keep getting the "Cannot find server" error message.

Grrr...

(Anyone out there know why, or when, "cannot" is one word as opposed to two. English is my first language but I still cannot/can not (?) seem to figure it out.)

Have no fear - if Photobucket keeps this up I will explore other photo-hosting options.

Felicity's and Mom's Hiking Scarves

Hiking Scarfs for Everyone!

My mom and I have each knit a couple hiking scarves here is a pictures of two of them. The white/blue/brown is a bulkier wool in a short length. We attached a button so it could be held closed as a muffler. The pink scarf is mine. I'm waiting for a shipment of more pink to make a matching hat I designed.

I finished this thing in December, but I am just getting around to posting photos now. I gave it to my brother (a new resident of NYC) and he just LOVED it. The whole experience has me addicted to knitting for other people.

Anyhow, about 2 months ago I posted a pattern for Irish Hiking Wristwarmers. Apperently, that wasn't enough for me because I have struck again: this time it is legwarmers! If you all are interested, check out my blog in about 3 days.
It's been fun, and a giant thanks to Lisa for hosting!

still knitting

I'm still knitting my scarf and enjoying the process. I did make a mistake in the cable and have to rip back about 6 rows. I used the process taught to me: use a smaller needle and pick up stitches of the row below the mistake, take out the regular needles and let it rip. I did have to turn some twisted stitches but that was easy enough. I was just happy to see the mistake and where to fix it. Thanks for having the knitalong.
