Karaoke Scarf DONE!

I put this aside so I could knit socks and then the Knitting Olympics (which I sucked at, but that is another thing). It has been so cold here that I picked this up again last night so I could finish, and VOILA!



Yarn: 3 skeins SWTC's Karaoke (Mermaid Mix) #278

First, isn't this yarn amazing? Not only the way the colors blend, but if you could just feel it, you would not want to put it down. That is why I am going to make the matching handwarmers next!

Chicago scarf all done

I am so tempted to pick a fight with the giftee so that I can keep this for myself! I totally love it. It's squishy and warm and soft. I think the recipient is going to love it too.

Chicago Scarf

I modified the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern down to one cable to accomodate this chunky fat black yarn, and it's coming along nicely. This scarf is intended for a friend who is relocating from balmy Los Angeles to decidedly less balmy Chicago next month. I hope she likes it because if she doesn't, I'm keeping it! :D

And two more Irish Hiking scarves are done!

The scarf on the left was knitted with 5 skeins of Andean Silk and the one on the right was knitted with the same amount of Classic Elite Wings. The composition is exactly the same, although the price triples from the Andean Silk to the Classic Elite. I used size 7 needles for the cinammon and 8 for the blue and I don't know if this is the reason why the blue one feels lighter and fluffier. In any case, both yarns have a great stitch definition, and I love the results equally.

Hey, this is fun!

I started my scarf on Friday night--part of the Knitting Olympics. At any rate, I have about 20 inches done so far. I'd never done cables and for some reason was intimidated by them. But I'm enjoying this!! I may have to make the hat too!! Here's what it looks like so far:

Hello from Chicago

Hello! I've just started my scarf, using Knitpicks Wool of the Andes (chocolate) and US 9s. I did a crochet cast-on because I would like to add a light blue border of some type, and I didn't have the blue yarn when I started the scarf. I still have not decided what type of border to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Irish Hiking Scarf Progress

I've had to set this aside for a bit while I work on other things, but here is my progress since beginning this scarf on Monday. I'm learning so much from this (my first cable project) and can't wait to wear it. I'm using Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted in "Tiger Lily." I have some other stash yarns I am considering for a second one, including Rowan Calmer and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.

In my opinion, this is an excellent "first cable" project.

Hiking Sort-of Hat

Pattern: My bastardized version of the Basic Cable Hat from SnB Nation
Yarn: Patons Classic Merino - ivory
Needles: Sz US8 Clover Bamboo DPNs
Time: Sometime last weekend, finished Saturday night
Mods: Well, I really changed this up. I've knit it four times now, each different. The first attempt was a *bit* too small. For the second attempt I added two cabled sections and one more pattern repeat. It worked out OK, but was a bit too big. The third one I removed one of the cabled sections and added six more rows of ribbing and one pattern repeat. Still a bit too big. So, for this one I went with the same number of cabled sections, but kept the other mods. It seems a bit longer than the third, but is more snug than the second or third.
Thoughts: I love it! I am loath to part with it, and will be checking the drug-dealer scale to see if I have enough yarn left to knit one for myself. It fits great.
I cannot say enough good things about this yarn. I knit three of these hats with this yarn and it seems much sturdier than the Knitpicks I used for mine. Don't get me wrong, I love my Knitpicks yarns, but they just don't seem as sturdy as the Patons. And it's almost just as cheap (especially if you get it at Joann's with a 40% off coupon like I do - then it is as cheap as Knitpicks).
