My Progress

Here is the little bit of progress that I have made on my Irish Hiking Scarf. It will be a present for my sister at Christmas.

Some progress made

Things went pretty smoothly while I was away at my parents for 4 days. I did get a little done on my IHS. Got a couple pattern repeats done. It would be 4, but I (who knows how) managed to have a cable twist go the wrong way and had to rip it back.

Finally Finished

It was close there for a while, but I finally finished my scarf. It seemed like it took forever! If I make another one I'll definitely use bigger yarn.

new to the KAL

I'm new to the knit along, and just cast on tonight! This is my very first knit along, although not particularly new to knitting. I adore cables - both the look of them, and the actual knitting (I think because they look so much more difficult then they actually are, and they make my non-knitting friends oooh and ahhh)!

I'm knitting on Addi Turbos with some lovely Debbie Bliss cotton angora from my stash, and am quite pleased with how things are looking so far!

Having Fun

Hi there. I started my Irish Hiking Scarf over the weekend. It's my first time knitting cables. Things are going fairly well. I'm using Irish Aran yarn that I got from The Irish Ewe. Out of curiosity, is it common for hands to feel like they are trying to do too many things at once while doing cables (at least in the beginning). When I return from house sitting (end of weekend) I'll post a pic of how things are going.

FREE PATTERN: Irish Hiking Headband

For those who asked me and those who are interested in the Headband Pattern, I just posted it in my blog...

Isabelle aka Tricotine Knitting

Tricky thing...that gauge stuff!

I'm a new knitter and attempting my first Irish Hiking Scarf. The pattern is wonderful, the flowing cables are lovely and yes, the gauge is off...way off. By the time this baby is finished, only Shrek the Ogre will be large enough to wear it and not look buried alive in the scarf. :) Nevertheless, I love it. (Can't wait to do it correctly the next time!)

Here is my IKS finished.
I made it 40 repeats long, long enough to wrap once around my neck but not too long to bother me in my activities.
I also made up a Headband to match the Scarf and the Wrist Warmers (photos in my blog)

Progress on my Irish Hiking Scarf

Here it is, about 70% completed...

Read more about my IHS experience in my blog if you wish... Smile

I am not sure about the lengh my scarf should be though...

I am thinking about 45 repeats or so of the design pattern to get a scarf that can wrap at least once around my neck...

What do you all think? Is it going to be long enough?

Hmm

Other than that, I am so into Cable right now!

NO! Not THAT one... TV 3

Face Plant

This one!

Staring at my scarf inspired me... I just love that photo!

Doesn't it look like a Cable Roller Coaster? Smile

Another Irish Hiking Scarf

I love this pattern. It's the third time I've used it.

The yarn is Knit Picks Sierra in Cranberry. I used (3) Skeins. (It really could have used 4) I knit it using a size 9 needle. All that's left to be done is to weave in the ends.
And I wave hello to the sky...

My wrist warmers are done. I lost count on the first one and had to frog back but the second went so fast my needles were smoking. They fit well and feel so wonderful. I don't know who made the yarn but it's wool and I used it for a dog sweater last winter. In the end I had to frog part of the sweater to finish. I could have sworn I had another skein somewhere...

Irish Hiking Wristwarmers

After languishing in my Bag of Stuff that is Very-Nearly-but-Not-Quite done since August or so, I finally got around to finishing my Irish Hiking Wristwarmers!

I used Knit One, Crochet Too Paintbox in Walnut Plum.

Thanks for looking!

Is it better to have loved and lost?

About 5 years ago I bought a beautiful red scarf while on holidays in Katoomba. It was the most wonderful, bright, clear, red woollen scarf, (woven not knitted) It felt wonderful against the skin even though it was pure wool. It was made in Scotland and was very expensive, I would never have paid the full price(even though it was worth it) but the shop was closing down and it was half price. I loved that scarf. A few years later while again on holidays, this time in Melbourne, I was shopping with a friend on Bridge Road during the sales. It was a very cold day, we were dressed in coats and I was wearing my red scarf. We went into a crowded shop and were trying on jackets. I took off my coat and left it with my bag on the floor between my feet, but placed the red scarf on the clothes rack in front of me. In hindsight it was a negligent thing to do, but we had been in and out of shops taking coats on and off and I had become blase. But the scarf was only a few feet away and I could see it right in front of my eyes. But then I turned to look at what my friend was tyring on. When I turned back the scarf was gone. You might think , well it was just a scarf, but I loved that scarf. I have never been able to find another scarf that is quite as beautiful a shade of red but the wool I have chosen for my IHS is getting close. I'm starting to feel that I might love this scarf as well.

Irish Hiking Hat

Here is my first Irish Hiking Hat, made to match the IH scarf I posted about here back in the spring.

Yarn: Unger Utopia
Needles: aluminum circs
Notes: I made the hat much longer than the SnB pattern so that it could have a warm brim. I also added a pompon made of Utopia. Finally, I used the same dark red yarn to add fringe to the scarf I made so that they really match.

The "Candy Cane" IHS is done.

Finished my daughters IHS this week. This one is knit in Cascade Quattro, a very soft warm yarn. The cables don't pop much, but it's very pretty anyways.
